Sandefjord International Centre (SIFU)If you want to establish contact with Norwegians and participate in Norwegian society it is important to speak Norwegian. It is also important to have a basic understanding of Norwegians and Norway. In Sandefjord, basic language training for immigrants is available at Sandefjord International Centre (SIFU).The school offers courses in Norwegian and Social Studies for adult immigrants (over 16 years of age). The centre has approximately 250 participants from 50 countries taking various courses.
Many immigrants with residence permits in Norway are entitled to free education, regardless of background. The school also has fee-paying students. The fees are very reasonable.
There are from 10 to 20 persons in each group. The groups are organised according to ability, so that each group is roughly at the same level in terms of Norwegian skills. The centre has approximately 10-12 groups at different levels on day courses (from 12-30 hours per week) and 4-5 groups on evening courses (3-6 hours per week).
